Hi Mumbles, sorry cannot help on that one, John Sawyer isn't in my tree, I must have just entered his family for someone else, as we do. Can you request a Marriage Look Up? Best Wishes from Linell.

Until 1928 the legal age for marriage with parental consent was 16 for men and 14 for women

Checked again and it was lower:-
1836-1928 - Minimum age at marriage: 14 for males, 12 for females

1929 Age of Marriage Act - Marriages between persons either of whom is aged under
16 are void

1949 - consolidated two previous Acts, repealing them.

1969 Family Law - reduced the age of majority from 21 to 18, and the age at
Reform Act which men and women were able to marry without
Parental consent from 21 to 18.

I have posted look up for marriage of John Sawyer to Sarah Bastable

Added census for Jabez.
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =452426604

Just been looking through BCC and you know I think there is just a little confusion. Theres this marriage showing on BCC

SAWYER James HOLLIES Sarah
09 JUN 1851 Dudley, St Thomas West Midlands Dudley Register Office 204/011/56

and the census that goes with James shows Henry Hollies living with them from 1861 through to 1881. I'm not sure if that marriage had been looked up? May be good to have that done too?

What do you think?
Jo :)

On BCC it shows the ref. for the marriage along with date but doesnt show other info of the marriage so I wasnt sure if it had already been looked up?
SAWYER James HOLLIES Sarah
09 JUN 1851 Dudley, St Thomas West Midlands Dudley Register Office 204/011/56

The census details that are there looked correct to me for that James Sawyer. I can only think he may have married twice or there are two James Sawyers? But I cant remember seeing another one? Mumbles has added the one for Sarah Bastable. May be a double check on the marriage and also the one possibly for his daughter too.
I'll add them.
Jo :)
