Can anyone help find a record of Samuel Weston b.1875..He served in WW1
in S.Staffs Reg......Have 3 possibles in the medal records, but not certain which
is the right one. I believe he was living in the Stourbridge area prior to 1914, although
the family moved to Hockley Hill, Birmingham about that time.
Possibles:
Pte.S.Weston No.18621. reissued No. 219218
Pte.S.Weston No.23709. reissued No. 40713
Pte.S.Weston No.9750. reissued No. 286027.
I know its S.Staffs..as I have a photo with S.staffs badge in his cap.

Hi,
I think we've hit the jackpot because I've found the records (not lots) for Pte.S.Weston No.18621. reissued No. 219218 and his family were living in Birmingham but Samuel was born in Cradley Heath. I just want to confirm some details with you before posting all the information to make sure it's your man:
Children May, John, George, Lilly and wife Martha.
If you confirm the above details I will post what there is available.
Regards
Adrian

The South Staffordshire Regiment

10 October 1917 : landed at Le Havre and attached to 7th Brigade in 25th Division.
22 June 1918 : after heavy losses, remnants of various battalions including this moved into 25th Composite Brigade. Brigade transferred to 50th (Northumbrian) Division.
11 July 1918 : reduced to cadre strength and transferred to 116th Brigade in 39th Division.
6 November 1918 : disbanded in France.
7th (Service) Battalion
Formed at Lichfield in August 1914 as part of K1 and became part of 33rd Brigade in 11th (Northern) Division. Moved initially to Grantham. Moved to Frensham in April 1915.
Sailed from Liverpool in early July 1915 for Gallipoli, landing at Suvla Bay 7 August 1915.
Evacuated from Gallipoli December 1915, moved to Egypt via Imbros.
Moved to France in July 1916.
Samuel would have seen service in Gallipoli before becoming ill while on active service being sent home via Egypt. I think he may have seen some service in France with the Labour Corp because on his medal index card it states Labour Corp.
Hope this helps.
All the best
Adrian
