Hi everyone,

My x4 Grt Grandfather John Tolley was born in 1800 Lindridge, Worcestershire (moved to West Bromwich) and from the IGI I've found his siblings and name of his parents William and Esther.

The problem is I can't find any records of the marriage of William and Esther or the birth of William. I think William must have been born and married outside the parish of Lindridge because I've check the parish records for Lindridge with no joy.

Any ideas would be smashing.

I also have Tolley's from Lindridge in my tree, I have a Esther Tolley (my 3rd G Grandmother) b abt 1802, who married a John Edwards in 1823 in Abberley.

I don't think Esther is a direct descendant but wouldn't be suprised if I'm related somehow because around the Lindridge, Pensax and Kidderminster area of Worcestershire you find loads of Tolleys. The problem I have I can't find any details on William or Esther parents of my John Tolley to see where they fit into the whole picture.

I think your Esthers parents' were James and Sarah and maybe James was a brother or cousin of my William but just can't locate any details on Williams' parentage at the moment.

I think our Tolley families originate from Worcestershire because I've found records about the Tolleys of Worcestershire going back to the early 1500's and some of them seem to have owned land (maybe farmers). I did find another large branch of the Tolley family around the Devon area going back to the 1500's so my guess is one branch of the family moved either from Worcestershire or Devon sometime prior to the 1500's. I'm not sure if Worcestershire or Devon was the original place of the Tolleys.

Hi Adrian,
Esther Tolley parents was, as you say James and Sarah Edwards. Esther married a John Edwards, I am related though the daughter Elizabeth Edwards, who moved to the Black Country and married a James Havard, in 1853 at Sedgley.

Maria TOLLEY [Parents] was christened on 31 Jul 1808 in Lindridge, Worcester, England. She married John ASTON on 27 Nov 1828 in Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.

They had the following children:
