Hey, an interesting connection! ...

An Ancestry tree says that James, father of Joseph, was born in Australia!

James Parkes
Birth 1816 in Cooks River Sydney, New South Wales,Australia
Death 1876-06-17 in Yerrangobilly, New South Wales,Australia

HIS father, John, was born in Halesowen and died in Australia:
John Parkes 1768 in Halesowen,Worcester,,England
Death 1839 in Parkes Camp, Cook River, New South Wales, Australia

Now this is very early for John to have been in Australia. Not many free settlers at this time. John is most likely to have either been a convict or a soldier. I'll see what I can confirm at this end.

No marriage in New South Wales, so John probably married before coming to Australia. That is, IF the Ancestry tree is right. Might be heading 'up the garden path'.

Have added some details to bcc, as Rosannah Rollason (m Joseph Parkes) is the sister of my direct ancestor. To make things even more complicated, Joseph Parkes mother, Hannah A Crawford, was the sister of another of my direct ancestors (on a diiferent line): Martha Crawford, who married Ferdinando Shakespeare.

Interestingly, Rosannah Rollason's grandmother was a Jane Parkes b abt 1804 (she married William Rollason) -this Jane Parkes parents were Edward Parkes & Sarah Willetts (m 1791 Dudley): I wonder if there is a connection with the family of James & Joseph Parkes?? - Edward Parkes/ Sarah Willetts one of my brickwalls!!
