My Thomas Fielding married a Mary ? born about 1852 Tipton/Dudley area. I have birth certificates for 2 of his children stating his wife's name was Mary Marsh. However the only marriage I can find for Thomas Fielding was to a Mary Smart on 24th July 1870 at Dudley Parish Church. The witnesses were Joseph Chater and Sarah Chater.<br>

Would love to find out which is correct. Any help would be gratefully received.<br>

Hi Pete,
confirm all the information you have given me is correct.
The Sarah Chator was Thomas Fielding's sister and I have all the census details of Joseph Chator and Sarah Fielding from 1851 to 1901 and even her death in 1913.

On the marriage certificate I have for Thomas Fielding and Mary Smart, Thomas's father was Henry ( Coal Miner ) and Mary Smart's father was William ( Coal Miner ).

Have found census info for a Mary Marsh and 1861 shows Mary's parents as William Marsh b.1831 Sedgley and Ann Watson b.1833 Dudley. Have followed all this through but still don't know if it is correct as am puzzled because of the marriage certificate stating Mary's name was Smart.

Could it be there is another marriage for a Thomas Fielding and Mary Marsh which I have been unable to find ?

May be its just an error in Marsh? Could be transcribed wrongly?
What time span was there in the two births certs you got?

Wonder if Smarts wrong then! I havent looked to see if theres a Mary Smart mind.
I thought the 1911 Census would clear up when they got married, doesn't!
