Hi,
For a long time now I have been trying to trace the birth and death record of my grandads brother Robert Teall.
According to an old letter I have, Robert was born Nov 30th 1905 at Downing Street, Newport Gwent. Unfortunately he only lived for 10 minutes.
I have searched all avenues I know of but no joy hence my post here.
I cannot understand why I can find my grandfather and all his brothers and sisters birth and death records but none of Robert?
Roberts father was James Bloomer Teall Born Wawickshire 1884 Died 1952 Newport Gwent
Mother: Ethel Grainger Born 1885 Died 1935 Newport Gwent
Any help or suggestions appreciated.
Paul

Sadly it may have been that he was not considered long enough to have been recorded officially as born and died.
Who was the letter from? It could have been wishful thinking on their part that he had actually lived because they wanted it to be true.
Could it have been that he didn't live long enough to be baptised? - depending on the religion that could count as not having lived.
A sad story whatever the reason turns out to be.

Maybe he was registered as still born as this would have saved registering him and buring him (poss money they didnt have ?)

Thank you for reminding me of this fact peterd - I have not had a chance to use 1911 much and had forgotten it told us this.

The letter was written by Roberts sister in the late 80's
I have no access to 1911 census at the moment. Will have to return to Robert when I get access.
Thanks everyone for input.

Just wondering whether the sister was old enough to remember it as fact or was relaying family stories from her youth?

Forgot to note that on 1911 Census it notes alongside father and mother that they have three children living and one dead which ties up with Robert

Many thanks Mumbles.
That is the first real evidence confirming the letter I have about Robert dying is true.
I really would like a birth and/or a death certificate for my records that would be solid proof for future generations to see. I would like future generations to know of Robert but unfortunately there may be no certificates

I would like to try and find his burial place too so I could pay him a visit.
Perhaps I might contact Newport archives (will have to find them first!) and enquire as to what would of happened when a child was born but died soon after.
Thanks again
Paul

Bad news on any possible certificates of Robert
Newport have come back they searched the date I gave plus one year prior and 1 year later with nothing found.
I am dissapointed there seems to be no certificates. It looks as though the 1911 census may be my only record of Robert having been born and died.
All other birth/ death dates listed in letter I have, have been 100% accurate so I do not think it is a wrong date issue.
Is there any more avenues anyone might recommend I try to find Roberts birth/ death? If Newport has no record does that mean there is definately nothing else out there?
Paul.

Hi Peterd,
They checked birth and death records:
Dear Mr Edwards,
Thank you for your enquiry. We have searched through our records and
cannot find any trace of either the birth or death of your grandad's
brother. We searched 1904-1906 but found no trace.
Sorry we are unable to help on this occasion
I did enquire as to what the proceedure in Newport would of been around 1905 when a child was still born or only lived for a short period, but in the e-mail I had (above) they did not mention anything about it, so maybe that might be worth persuing. Surely some paperwork had to be filled out somewhere?
