Trying to find out more about my Great Grandfather Samuel John Hudson.

He was around the Hastings Sussex area from 1900-1911 when i am told he died whilst working on the railways, but i dont know where.

Cant find a birth record, marriage record, or death record, have no idea where he comes from or was buried.

Heres what i know -

Partner/Wife was Emma Somerwill born in Swimbridge Devon in 1871, no record of him marrying her but she dies as Emma Hudson in 1963, she had two illegitimate children in Devon in 1893 and 1896 before moving to Hastings C1897-1899.

They had 3 children together -

Samuel John Hudson born in 1899 in Hastings

Alice Minnie Hudson born in 1901 in Hastings

George Henry Hudson born in Hastings in 1906 - my grandfather

On the 1901 census My Great Grandmother Emma is shown in Hastings with her children but they are all shown as surname Somerwill despite the birth registers and certificates for the children showing the surname as Hudson.

On the 1911 Census they are all now shown as Hudson, Emma is shown as single.

Would like a birth record / marriage record and death details for him.

I have a birth cert for children Samuel Hudson and Alice Minnie showing him as the father and occupation as a Navvy, i have no birth cert for son George Henry, cannot find one anywhere.

I have a vague memory of someone else trying to find out some info about an ancestor on the railways a few weeks ago and I referred them to ??? National Archives??? as I had just seen an article saying they had the old employee records.

This would have been before term started - anyone remember which thread it would have been on or is it my imagination/have I dreamt it ?

They might be a place for jesterhud to try if he hasn't done so already

Would that be the John Samuel Hudson born 1861 in Riston, Yorkshire.

He can be found in Riston, Yorkshire East Riding in the 1861 Census with father Joseph and Mother Mary Ann.
