There are several parallel Cutler families originating from Halesowen.

Two of these lines are contantly being mixed together.

George Cutler born 1808 is the son of Nancy Dearn born 1770 in Halsowen and Thomas Cutler born 1766 in Halesowen. I am yet to positively identify the parents of this Thomas Cutler.

The children of this couple are...and they are all born in Halesowen...

George Cutler 1808 - 1889

James Cutler 1815 - 1825

The parallel family that lots of people trip over also involves a Dearn/Cutler marraige and once again all are from Halesowen;

Mary Dearn born 1770 in Haelsowen who married a Thomas Cutler born 1769 in Halsowen. The parents of this Thomas Cutler are Samuel Cutler and Phoebe Jones.

The parents of this Thomas Cutler are confirmed by fact that they have a daughter called Phoebe and their first born son is named after the paternal grandfather, Samuel.

There is another parallel family that has a 1764 Thomas Cutler just to confuse matters....

So I would adjust the date of birth on BCC to 1766 for Thomas Cutler just to ensure we are talking about the correct one.

Ok Mark I have altered the dob for the Thomas who married Nancy to 1766

but some of this you can add to you know...that is the whole idea!
so any of those dates of deaths you can add them to these ancestors please

The Nancy b 1770 where is that from?
we have a bapt 1771

James Cutler dying in 1825 we have 1828
where is 1825 from?

The Thomas with parents Samuel and Phoebe you can add those parents

anything that needs altering and there is a name either contact them or flag on here
(so it can be discussed and decision made)

In this case I thought it better to explain than just change as the BCC software itself is not ideal for disucssing alternate facts...

Jame Cutler death 1825 is confirmed by the parish register and the National Burial Index and I.G.I.

Nancy born abt 1771 is correct. my typo....

Okedoke have amended that 1828 for James to 1825

Okay, the death of James Cutler on the 02 Oct 1825 has been assigned to two different children in the I.G.I

In this record C013762 1736 - 1761 0886632 Film 0883772 Film you will find most of the Cutlers in Halesowen.

I.G.I assign the death to a James Cutler born 1816 to a William and Mary. (William Cuttler and Mary Hall. this Cutler family were christened with the double T in their name)

They also assign the death to the James Cutler born in 1815 to Thomas and Nancy.

I think I need to recheck the original registry entry to make sure we have the right one....

One of these James is still alive and kicking in Halesowen in 1841 according to the census.

I think this is "our" James Cutler as he had a brother called Thomas born 1812.

I think he married a Jane Jones in Birmingham in Dec 1837.

Their child, Mary Cutler, was born in May 1838 in Smethwick.

So I am scrapping his death in 1825....

James Cutler being alive for a long time checks out....

His wife, Jane Jones. dies before 1861.

One of his children, Mary Cutler, marries a William Baker.

The Cutlers and Bakers can be seen living together is several census.

James is still alive in 1881 but haven't traced him beyond that.

We have ordered some CDs that include all of the Halesowen Parish records plus transcribed listings of witnesses to the weddings which is our best bet of figuring out who is who.

We have three Thomas Cutlers born within 3 years of each other each marrying a Dearn. (A Nancy, a Mary and an Ann).

So far I have 9 William Cutlers born within a 4 year period in Halesowen.

I thought these Cutlers were bad till I revisited my Black Country Ford families......Aaaaaaarggggggghhhhh!!!!

Where are you ordering the CD's from Mark and what years do they cover?

I have the Halesowen CD Mark, did look for my Cutlers on there, not much help, think most of them were Baptised or not in the Oldbury area, i.e. the Non Conformist Chapels. I am looking for a Baptism for James about 1800, I think his parents were Issac Cutler and 2nd Wife Leah Downing. Witnesses to James's Marriage were Edward and Sarah Cutler, so James probably had a brother called Edward. Happy hunting from Linell.

Yes that is the one I have, plus Old Swinford, plus Rowley Regis, also have some Cradley Registers in Book form, and a few fiche's. The BMSGH has some great resources.
