My wife has gone back as far as the marriage of Robert Clifton Singleton and Susannah Dickinson in Garstang on 8 October 1850.

Is anyone else researching this line, or can recommend a family history website for Lancs on a par with the admirable Black Country Connections?

Cheers,
MT

Did you get the marriage certificate?
The 1851 census has a family of Dickinson living next door to them, did you notice that?
Heres a possible in census for you just incase you dont have it.

And the following site has a Lancashire section http://www.rootschat.com/
I've posted on various bits of this site and they are very helpful - almost as good as us

Many thanks for the info. We've found the marriage certificate, where Robert's father was also Robert Singleton, and Susannah's father was John Dickinson.

Delving into the LDS website and online Parish records suggests that father Robert married Ellen Clifton in Garstang in 1826, giving rise to the use of Clifton as the middle name in later generations of Singletons.

My wife is currently trying to push her SINGLETON research as far back as reasonably possible, and is hoping to link into somebody else tracing that tree, or else discover a Lancashire website as good as our Black Country Connections.

Thanks again for the pointers in the meantime,
MT
