My Auntie used to tell me, when I was a child, that Cabel Knowles' mother was an Indian Squaw!
Researching Cable/Kabel Knowles: -
Looking up on GRO: -
Kabel Knowles 1840 M Qtr in Stourbridge Union. Volume 18, Page 497. Mother's maiden name: Homan.
1851 Census: -
John Knowles, age 31, Married, Horse Nail Maker, Wollescote
Meriah, age 32, Wife, Nail Forger, East Indies
Keable, age 11, son, Nail Forger, Wollescote
Joeles (Should be Giles), son, Scholar, Wollescote
William, 6 months, son.
Meriah/Maria was apparently born on 25th April and baptised in Bangalore on 12th May 1819. Parents: William Moobly/Mobberley, serge 14.16.34th Regts and Helen, his wife.
It seems there are errors regarding Kabel/Cable's mother's maiden name? Homan or Mobberley? Was Kabel/Cabel born to a different mother and his siblings born to Maria, nee Mobberley?

Caleb was my GG Grandfather on BCC here
https://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/t ... ver=680005
John and Maria married 1843 in Oldswinford as far as I know Maria was Caleb's mother, she was born in Bangalore as her father William was in the army.
Maria's parents were William and Eleanor Walker, they were married 7 Nov 1817 in Madras, it was Williams second marriage

I've never actually looked for a birth but it could be he was born before marriage ?

Thanks Kaye for posting the cert,
I'm now guessing that is where "Homan" came from. Single woman and the written word for woman looks like Homan, which could have been the reason why it was printed as mother's maiden name on GRO by error?
I have the same photo but in black and white.
I have come across William Mobberly's marriage to Ellen Walker (widow), which has taken place at Vellore, Madras on 7th November 1817.

My late Auntie gave me the photo, which I scanned, and she was actually an older cousin of my Dad's on the Cox side.

Not that I recall... Auntie Mary's mother's name was Rose Lavinia.
Cabel probably stuck in my mind because he apparently married an Indian Squaw and because he had an unusual christen name so I thought he may also be foreign. He looked dark skinned on the photo.
I used to love my Auntie telling me stories of our ancestors, Benny Fiddler is another one and he weighed 29 stones! We still have his violin in a case.
