Savage Assault at Cradley. John Lambeth, 22, puddler, and Sophia Lambeth, 21, his wife, were indicted for maliciously wounding Sarah Hollyoak, at Cradley, on the 1st March last, with intent to do her some grievous bodily harm. Mr. Best was for prosecution, and Mr. Browne for the defence. The parties were neighbours, and a quarrel took place between them on the night question, because the daughter of the prosecutrix was insulted by the male prisoner. On the prosecutrix remonstrating, the prisoners threatened her, and eventually beat her in the most brutal way with a poker and mop-stale. Prisoners were found guilty, and were sentenced to 13 months’ imprisonment, with hard labour, each.—His Lordship said he should have passed a sentence of eighteen months of imprisonment on each of the prisoners, but that he took into consideration the fact that they had already been five months in gaol.
