can we find her on census father is a William Smith
I wondered about this one

1881 census

William SMITH 48 Halesowen, Worcester, Plate Layer Railway
Mary A. SMITH 44 Halesowen, Worcester,
William SMITH 23 Halesowen, Worcester, Nail Forger
Sarah SMITH 20 Halesowen, Worcester, Nail Forger
George SMITH 3 Halesowen, Worcester,

just wondered if they had an Annie on prev census
perhaps 1871
trouble is this couple marry 1857

the annie smith I am searching for marries a Wm Tromans in 1875
TROMANS William SMITH Annie 1875 Dudley, St Thomas West Midlands Dudley Register Office 204/032/215

we have him on bcc
Wm Tromans dies and she marries a Thomas James in 1896
this straddles the Thomas James thread on here
but lets keep post here for annie smith and family please

If Annie married William Tromans in 1875 and then Thomas James in 1896, then (unless she had an intervening marriage) she should be on the 81 & 91 census as Ann/ie Tromans, but not on the 1901.

1881
At 20 Spring Meadow, Rowley Regis

William Tromans Head 25 Carpenter, b. Rowley Regis, Staffordshire
Ann Tromans Wife 26 b. Rowley Regis, Staffordshire
Lily Tromans Daur 3 b. Rowley Regis, Staffordshire
Joseph Tromans Son 11 mo.

1891
At Lawrance Lane, Rowley Regis

William Tromans Head 35 Builder (Master) (goes with previous 'carpenter')
Annie Tromans Wife 36
Joseph Tromans Son 10 Scholar
Tommy Tromans Son 7
Annie Tromans Daur 5
Fredrick Tromans Son 11/12
All born Rowley Regis.

Previous entry is (a relative?):
Harriet F Smith Head Widow 50 b. Worcestershire
George Smith Son S 25 Coal Miner
Harriet Smith Daur 18
Samuel Smith Son 15 Solicitors Clerk
Elizabeth Smith Daur 11
John Smith Son 9
All others born Rowley Regis.

1901 - can't see Ann and William
Frederick is possibly with an uncle & aunt:
At 48 Lawrence Lane, Rowley Regis
Thomas Hill Head 50 Fruiterer (Green) b. Worcs., Dudley
Ellen Hill Wife 51
Fred Tromans Nephew 10
Elizabeth Hewitt Servant 21 General Servant (domestic)

This looks like Annie & Thomas James in 1901?
1901
At 191 'Gate Hangs Well' (?), Halesowen Road, Rowley Regis

Thomas James Head 51 b. Staffs., Old Hill
Annie James Wife 46 b. Staffs., Old Hill
Joseph James Son 22 Brewer b. Staffs., Old Hill
Thomas Tromans Step-Son 18 Bricklayer b. Staffs., Old Hill
Emily James Daur 16 b. Warwick, Birmingham
Hannah James Mother Widow 75 b. Staffs., Old Hill

Step-son, Thomas is right for Tommy Tromans in 1891

So we are probably looking for an Ann/Annie Smith, born about 1855 in Rowley Regis/Old Hill, Staffordshire with father, William.

Having difficulty finding this Ann/ie in earlier census. So let's try tracing her possible smith rellies back ... Where is Harriet Smith in 1881?

1881
At Lomey Town, Rowley Regis

George Smith Head 45 Coal Miner b. Worcs., Dudley
Harriot Smith Wife 44 b. Worcs., Dudley
Mary Smith Daur 20 b. Worcs., Netherton
Sarah A. Smith Daur 17 b. Worcs., Netherton
George Smith Son 14 Scholar b. Worcs., Netherton
William Smith Son 12 b. Staffs., Cradley Heath
Harriot Smith Daur 9 b. Staffs., Cradley Heath
Samuel Smith Son 5 b. Staffs., Cradley Heath
Eliza Smith Daur 1 b. Staffs., Cradley Heath
Frederick Parkin Visitor 12 Scholar Liverpool

So Harriet is married to a George Smith. Is George possibly a brother of Annie Smith?

huge age gap betw George Smith and Annie - annie is 26 in 1881
could it be her Uncle?
could he be a William George?
or Harriett her mother and a smith too?
