I've been listening to the Gyles Brandreth podcast Rosebud and the first question he asks his guests is what is the first memory they have. I can't believe that some people can remember when they were 12 months old or even younger. Some say it could be because they have photos of themselves at that young age. I have photos of me at 6 months old with my Mom, Dad and two brothers but I don't remember them being taken.

Anyway, my first memory is the very first day I started Wrens Nest Infant School, Dudley and sat on one of the old type seesaws where a child would sit opposite another child on the seesaw. We would then have to push a knob and we would go round in a circle. This first ride was with Glenys Bradley who lived in a pre fab house in Wrens Nest Road and we became friends until the pre fab houses were knocked down and she went to live on the Priory Estate, Dudley and changed her school to the Priory School.

So, what is your first memory?

My first memory is of being pushed in a pushchair along a sandy path, going to a beach in Cornwall - Polly Joke probably. I remember looking down at the tartan strap holding me in the seat, and that detail was something I asked my mum about and is correct. I don't think anyone ever told me that my pushchair had a tartan strap, and I've never seen any photos of that, so I think I genuinely remember this.

I can remember being kicked in the eye by my brother, he was on a swing and I was running towards him. I was about 3 at the time.

I only have vague memories, probably about 4, my grandad calling me, my full name, if I was naughty!
Sitting on my great uncles knee, for a nap after he had been on nights. He was quite a big man and so comfy!
A scratchy jumper I had to wear for school!

So I would say about 4 is the youngest I can remember.

I like games like this. In the past i've tried so hard to remember back to as early as possible that my head was aching. I think i can remember certain things and if thats so then i would have been 3 years of age. Not always good memories but the first happy memory is the Coronation of 1953 when i would have been nearly 5. I can remember starting Good Shepherd Infants and that by my calculations would have been September 1952. I started school a year early and had to do the last year twice before moving to Secondary School. Strange thing memories. Your mind is like a sponge it absorbs them and sometimes the sponge is full and then you have to unload some to make space for more and thats the hard bit !!
