Alternative to host our tree

Post by grangers14 »

I have been looking into other places to hold out tree, that is if the gedcom will work there. :wtf:
I feel Ancestry because it has options for others to add.
My head is a bit frazzled but I have looked at
My Heritage
https://www.myheritage.com/

Findmypast (I need to ask if they will upload it because the gedcom is so big)
https://www.findmypast.co.uk/blog/family-tree

TNG (I don't understand much about it)
https://tngsitebuilding.com/

What are your thoughts?

I have a son.in law who is IT expert and he might be interested in designing and running a Web site that would serve our purposes but it would not be free to design and set up and run as would need a large server and data saver system. It would however be under our control. Have not asked him yet but he retires in 3 to 4 years

Thank you for looking.
Findmypast I don't think others can add?
I'm getting muddled, looking at them all!
I don't think you need to subscribed to Ancestry to put your tree?

The tree that is saved is 106 MG at the moment.
It would be interesting to see if your son in law would be interested, thank you.

I am going to move my own family tree off Tribal Pages and also tell friends the problems we have had, if they want to move theirs.

On Ancestry though are others able to view without a subscription?
Or to view a tree do you have to pay?

think you can view a tree if your sent an invite without subscription
A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

What a nightmare you've been having with trial pages and now tying to find an alternative for bcc. I didn't realise how big the issue was until I signed into the forum and saw the posts. I thought trial pages website was down.

On Ancestry I share a tree with my cousins. He subscribed and just shared the log in details with us. I haven't had to subscribe.

Hope that helps.

Take care x

It takes a huge amount of work and some finance running and maintaining Bcc.

So Grangers if you feel that you have had enough everyone would fully understand.
Credit to you that you are hanging in there and trying to find an alternative.
Really admire you for your tenacity.

I wonder how difficult it would be to get Charity status and get funding from say
the arts section/or wherever these people get their funding from.
Companies/sites like free bmd or free reg or bmsgh.

I have contacted
Findmypast, Myheritage and Ancestry.

Ancestry offer a family plan, I could join one, and then add 4 other people who would have access that sub. I could invite people to add and to view.
Or people could ask to view and others would also have notifications a match.

Myheritage, I would have to add.

Waiting to hear if findmypast can accommodate the size of the tree but I think I will have to add.

I am drained with all of this!
I won't give up, but please give me some time. :wtf:
