I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in 'brickwalls', but as I know there are a number of SHAKESPEARE researchers on here (which in itself is unusual as there are so few of us) who seem to be closely related to this line thought it might be best here in the Black Country section (if it needs to be moved that's ok).

This is the problem:
Edward SHAKESPEARE, born 1785, married Mary BOXLEY 22 Aug 1813, at St Thomas, Dudley. There are a considerable number of BUCKLEYs in the area - is 'Boxley' a variant of 'Buckley' : given the local accent this seems plausible.

There is a possible baptism 23 May 1790, St Thomas, Dudley, Mary Ann BUCKLEY, dau of John Buckley & Eleanor. No marriage for a Mary BUCKLEY on IGI for correct period in the area (which is well covered by the IGI), and no death or burial. There is a marriage for John Buckley and Eleanor Parker at Kingswinford, 29 Sept 1788, who are probably her parents.

Your thoughts, or any other information would be most welcome - for example, haven't found them yet in the census, just frustrated at being stuck at this point.

The children of Edward Shakespeare & Mary 'Boxley' were:
Ferdinando bapt 31/7/1814 , St Thomas, Dudley - Ferdinando was transported to Australia for theft.
Banjamin bapt 31/7/1814, St Thomas, Dudley, married Elizabeth Brettle/ Brettell (they are on bcc). I think these two were twins - there are lots of twins in this family.
Mary, born 29/8/1815, bapt 31/3/1819, King St Wesleyan, Dudley, m 1/3/1841, Old Swinford to Daniel Grainger (he was bapt 28/11/1813, St Thomas, Dudley).
Edward bapt 30/9/1821, St Thomas, Dudley, m 18/4/1840 to Caroline Henley, she was bapt 17/6/1821, St Thomas, Dudley.

I have details of all of the children of these couples, which will hopefully be on bcc soon.

The Edward Shakespeare who married Mary 'Boxley' (the subject of my enquiry), was bapt 16/11/1785, son of Ferdinando Shakespeare & Sarah Ruston.

have you any census for edward and mary to give an indication where she was born ?

Have not managed to find them in the census, but they would be in Dudley, probably in the Woodside area.

Don't think the Hartlebury one is him - if the Maria in that entry was born 1801 she would have been 12 at time of marriage in 1813 (legally possible I know, but most unusual) - there were two Edward Shakespeares born 1787 in Dudley: I think the Hartlebury one is one of those.

Hello Steve. Did you know Edwards father Ferdinand is in 1841 census aged 75 a nailer living with Sarah Round 35 and her children at Woodside. Don't know if she is his daughter but as his wife was Sarah there's a good chance. I haven't found Edward in 1841

I've looked at my tree maker files and in 1841 Benjamin is married and down as 25 so not with his parents. Have checked the children in later censuses to see if correct Ben and it looks like it is.

1841: Ben 25 & Elizabeth with Joseph 5, David 3 and Sarah Ann 1
1851:Ben 39 Joseph 14, Sarah Ann 10 etc

ps Sarah was Ferdinand's gd daughter.
