Charles Hackett was the third son of Charles and Sylvia Hackett of 9 Somers Road, Halesowen. He attended Halesowen C of E school and was a member of the Halesowen Methodists. He worked at Haywood Forge, Halesowen, and volunteered on the 4th August for the Worcesters. He was sent to the 9th (Service) Battalion who were eventually part of the reinforcement for the Gallipoli expedition and went ashore on the 6th August 1915. The landing was successful but the advance off the beach-head did not gain much ground. In the fierce fighting that followed it seems that Private Charles Hackett was severely wounded. He was put on a hospital ship but died at sea on the 14th August. He was 19 years of age and is commemorated on the Helles, Halesowen. Halesowen United Methodist church and Halesowen C of E school Memorials. His brother, Charles, died on the 14th May 1915.
