Ann Elizabeth Morris was probably better known as "Black Bess." She used to run pony and donkey rides from the stables at the back of the pub at Adams Hill, Clent and very well known to locals as far as Cradley where my parents, grandparents and ancestors lived. My friend and I used to ride on ponies from the stables in a hilly loop opposite the pub. The stables has sadly closed since early 2000s or towards the end of 1900s.
I will ask my Auntie if she remembers.

I was looking up on the internet, see if I could find any photos or stories of Black Bess and found this video by Bev Pegg, which brings back happy memories for me, although there were no donkeys at the time for me during 1960s-1980s, only ponies.

My father took my brothers and me to Client Hills, a pretty little place in Worcestershire, on Whit Monday. We enjoyed ourselves very much- There are donkeys to ride up and down the hills. I was very sorry for them because they were treated very cruelly. The boys driving them were beating them with thick sticks.
