Stanley Edmonds was the son of Henry and Abigail Evans of 59 Bloomfield Street, Halesowen. He enlisted in the Worcesters but, possibly on return from injury, he was transferred to the 8th Battalion of the Berkshires in the 18th Division. The Berkshires played a significant role in the last hundred days of the war and the unbroken series of victories from the 21st August. They crossed the old Somme battlefield despite being contested the whole way and on the 1st of September, described as the greatest day in the history of 18th Division, they made the way clear for the advance to the Hindenburg Line. The casualties included Sergeant Stanley Edmonds who died of wounds on the 1st September. He was 22 years of age and is buried in Daours Communal Cemetery (III F 25) and commemorated on the Halesowen Memorial.
