Translating English to English

My Uncle and Aunty from Oldbury arrived a couple of days ago for a holiday in Australia.

My Aussie daughters can't understand a word they say

I am like an interpreter but there is no foreign language involved. Its all the Queens English!

Mum and dad just arrived back from a few weeks in West Brom and they have caught their old accent back.

I still think it is all easy to undestand compared to some elderly cousins from Shropshire I met when younger.

That was a foreign language!

My Mum tells the story of how when she went to Teacher Training in Birmingham the first thing they did was to insist that everyone spoke the Queen's English (Queen Style!) - A bit difficult for some of those from the Black Country but they got there !

Then they all went out on teaching practice - The Black Country lassies were fine but the Essex girls couldn't understand a word the children were saying!!
