Hi,

Would anyone be able to help with locating a baptism for my Richard Raybould? This baptism should be 1800-1804c as there is a slight variation of age on census and death certificate. He states born Brierley Hill on all census and he married his second wife Hannah at Brierley Hill in 1850. He states his father was also called Richard on the marriage cert but no occupation was given for Richard Snr.

Richard is my brick wall at the moment and I dont have any info on his parents or possible siblings.

Also, his first wife was Mary nee Stevens and they married at Old Swinford on the 5th February 1826 according to the IGI. I know early marriage entries dont give much info but does anyone have access to Old Swinford records that may be able to check if it stated what parish Mary was of?

There are two possible deaths for Mary Raybould between 1846 and 1849 and I am presuming Brierley Hill but I dont have a death certificate yet for her.

Any help or guidance will be much appreciated.

Many thanks for the link. I am a little confused now because the children to my Richard & Mary are different to Linnell's Richard & Mary. The first child of mine was my great x 3 grandfather Samuel Raybould baptised 3rd June 1827 at Brierley Hill. Samuel was one of 9 children to Richard & Mary. One of those children was Ann Raybould who was born 11th November 1840. I bought her birth certificate which confirmed my Mary's maiden name was Stevens. The last child was Mary Raybould baptised at Brierley Hill 3rd August 1845.

Richard re-married at Brierley Hill in 1850 to Hannah so Mary died between 1845 and 1850 and there are two possibles in the Stourbridge district on the bmds. I havnt sent for them yet to check which one is mine but would presume she died and buried at Brierley Hill.

I have Richard's death certificate from 1888 which stated he was 88 but I think the person registering the death put a couple of years on him

Linnell has the same marriage info for their Richard & Mary so I am now confused to if I have gone wrong somewhere

Quick question, those entries you are listing from Dudley, are they references for another website or their archives? I am sorry that I dont have much knowledge of my Staffordshire roots yet as I live in Greater Manchester and before Sheffield so have never been to Dudley and Brierley Hill before.

Just looked at the 51 census and Linell's Mary is alive on it with their children, more confused now

Susan Beddard, daughter, registered Richard's death (just checking the cert) in 1888 and death was at Level Street which is the same as the 81 census.

if its a marriage look up your after put it on look up request as we have people who kindly go into the archive to do lookup for us

That extracted marriage for Richard & Hannah is the marriage I have the cert for. All information matches. It doesnt give their ages as both are 'of full age' but Richard is 20 years older than Hannah.

I would dearly like to know if Richard's baptism is at Brierley Hill as has stated he was born there. Would be great to know his mother's name.

I am concerned though about Richard's first marriage now as am wondering if I have gone wrong somewhere

who the witnesses on marriage cert ?

The witnesses were John (not sure of surname but looks like Fulk) and Maria Hall. Neither name mean anything to me at the moment.

Ah, found the thread again lol.

Yes, Richard is described as a widower on the 1850 marriage to Hannah Gardener. Hannah was a spinster. She had an illegitimate child. They are on the 51 census with 6 of his children to Mary (Benjamin, Elizabeth, Thomas, Ann, Hannah & Mary). Also with them is their first child together, Emma, and Hannah's illegitimate child Eliza Ann Gardener. The image on ancestry is terrible and is badly mistranscribed as Ruchala. Just sent them an email to correct it.
