Can anyone find either of them in 1841, their whereabouts between 1861 & 1880, any travel to the USA, and any other info that might relate to them?
I've got GRO birth info for Fanny and her siblings, Benjamin b 1850, John b 1853, Sarah Ann b 1857, Mary Jane b 1859 (mother's maiden name is shown as Hartland), Albert b 1862 (no forename shown), Freer b 1865 or 1866 (there are two possible entries) and Hannah b 1866.

No.1: I think we can dispose of this because none of the subsequent records suggest a birth that early.

No. 2: Although a common date on Ancestry trees I can't find any evidence for that specific date, as far as I can see none of the sources used as evidence actually give that date nor can I find it in other records which might carry a date of birth.

No. 3: Most likely because of the dates, and the one favoured by Ancestry Trees, but there's also a burial record:

which can only refer to that baptism or the previous, unsubstantiated, birth.

No. 4: Whilst it isn't impossible that a baptism would be held that late after a birth, and one of the Census records does suggest a birth date closer to 1820, I think this is also unlikely so as far as I can see we can't pin Eli's birth/baptism down any closer than 1816 as suggested by the majority of the other records, unless of course any of you lot can come up with a better answer. This also means that we can't find his parents.

I can't find any proof of the Ancestry tree claim for Eli's death being 22 July 1891, but there is a probate record:

In 1871 he's as his mother.

He doesn't appear on their journey out to the US, although another child, Alfred for whom there are no other records, does appear. The US Federal Census show that his mother Hannah could neither read nor write so there is an explanation for incorrect info appearing on that passenger list.

In 1880 he's as his parents.

At some point between then and the next census he has taken James as his name.
