Got news today that the gro have launched their own online index for births and deaths, which are transcribed from the original documents and not the indexes.

on the births it will include (where known) the mothers maiden name on all registered births from 1837 which could well help a load of people with brick walls etc.

Just spent an hour on the site and have found a few possible matches for my 4 missing Smiths

Bit of an update for a 3 week period you can order PDF versions to be sent via email for £6 rather than the £9.25 however they are only going to release 45,000 pdf's so the trial may not last that long
