Many thanks Grangers14, will have a proper look in the morning.

For now, please could you explain, "Freereg marriage"? Its the first I've come across it so am assuming the wedded couple didn't have to pay for their marriage to be registered?

Many thanks, Grangers14 and Northern Lass for all the info for Delilah Williams.

I think I've spotted an error as worked out that Delilah aged 10 in 1861 and aged 4 months in 1851 would have been born during 1851 not 1854?

There seems to be two couples of the same names with the other Delilah Williams born around 1854 marrying Samuel Taylor both also born in Rowley Regis! So confusing! :?

Would the below be the correct one and the one I should be looking at?

Father: Thomas Williams (1826 - ?) married Sarah (1819 - ?)
Daughter: Delilah Williams born/christened on 20 December 1851 in Rowley Regis - died 28 May 1913 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA

Married in 1868 to Samuel Gale Taylor b/c on 16 December 1847 in Cradley, Staffs - died 21 May 1911 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA Father: John Taylor (1807 or 1808 - ?)
Mother: Mary J Southall (1811 - ?)

Children of Delilah and Samuel: -

Sarah Caroline known as "Carrie" (1871 -
Samuel (1873 -
John Thomas (1874 - 1939)
Tamar May (1876 - 1938)
Amy Annie (1880 - 1941)
Isabela (1881 - )
Florence Violet (1885 - 1939)
Pearl Amelia (1889 - 1939)

There is only one Delilah born in the area according to the BMD indexes. A lot of the time ages and dates can be often out, it is best to give or take 5 years... Also if you look at 1841 census people over the age of 15 were round down to the nearest 5. So an 18 year old should be added as 15, 23 as 20...
As far as I can see it is the same person.
Jo :)

I've just had a look at BMD and found the one Delilah Williams in the area of Penkridge, which is on the other side of Wolverhampton from Rowley Regis, the latter which is where most of my Dad's ancestors came from so I'm not sure if that is our Delilah Williams? :? Is BMD reliable?

I'm just finding it all soooo frustrating - if there's one Delilah, she seems to have two sets of parents, married more than one Samuel Taylor in the Rowley/Cradley area!

Started to add here
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... onnections

So Sarah Caroline Taylor has parents Deliah Williams and Samuel Taylor

The sarah thread is running in brickwalls
It get confusing if we run with different people in a thread so Grangers started a new one for Delilah.

Bapt for Sarah Caroline is on Bcc in notes.

As Grangers says the bmd one of 1850 for Delilah looks good

So who is this one
mumbles wrote:Samuel Taylor and Delilah emigrated to USA in 1881/1882

New York Passenger lists :-
Arrival 11/11/1882 "Erin" Liverpool to New York
Delilah Tayler 30 Cannot read all infants with her (5)
except Samuel aged 8

1900 US Census Chicago Ward 15 Cook Illinois
Samuel Taylor 52 Blacksmith
Delia Tayler 49
Married 32 Years
John T. Taylor 26
All born England
Florence V. Tayler 14
Pearl M. Tayler 11
Rest born Illinois

Is it the same family as here....John T Taylor fits ...and a Samuel age 8 in 1881...fits..so could be same family emigrated in 1882

1881 3, Cuckhold Corner, Cradley, Stourbridge, Worcestershire,
Samuel Taylor Head Married Male 33 Horse Nail Maker Cradley, Worcestershire,
Delilah Taylor Wife Married Female 27 Rowley, Worcestershire,
Sarah C Taylor Daughter Single Female 10 Scholar Cradley, Worcestershire,
Samuel Taylor Son Single Male 8 Scholar Cradley, Worcestershire,
John T Taylor Son Single Male 6 Scholar Cradley, Worcestershire,
Tamar Taylor Daughter Single Female 4 Cradley, Worcestershire,
Annie Taylor Daughter Single Female 1 Cradley, Worcestershire, England
Isabela Taylor Daughter Single Female 0 Cradley, Worcestershire, (note by jan under1)

Do we have The above family in 1871 and 1891

I think it is the same one
Samuel Taylor and Delilah Williams marrying in 1870
then emigrating.
