I am looking for info on how do I find a photo that was published in an Irish newspaper
in prob. 1954

It is a photo of the last tram at Harland & Wolff Belfast dock

I upload one of the photos...

but I am searching for another photo of the "ringed" gentleman who apparently appeared in another photo on the back of the tram
on his own.
That is the photo I am after.

We don't know where this photo appeared in..ie which newspaper.
So that is what I am after...how do I find which newspaper it could be?
And where would that newspaper be available for viewing?

who do I contact to try and trace this photo
:?

This gives the date http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/belfastantrim.htm

Last Tramcars leaving Harland & Wolff Shipyard, Queens Island,
27th February 1954

Contact them maybe? Or search the British newspaper archives (or Findmypast)?

Sorry, I can't see anything there suggesting that they published photographs.
There are two photos on the link that I posted above. They must have been taken at the same time. They seem to have organized a procession on Sat 27th Feb (from BNA site):

TRAMS will disappear * from Belfast's streets to-morrow morning when to mark the occasion there will be a Last Tram ceremonial journey from Queen's Road to Ardoyne, leaving at 11.15 ... ”

Monday 01 March 1954 , Northern Whig , Antrim, Northern Ireland

There's photo here http://www.belfastforum.co.uk/index.php ... 97.90.html

Back at this one http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk/belfastantrim.htm the photo beneath one of the trams has an email starting meems@
I would send an email there, include a link to the page and ask if the woman running it could tell you where the photos were published.

When you use the BNA search there is a small image of the newspaper page and there is a blueish highlighted area showing roughly where the article is located. It is not totally reliable but you can see if there is a photo, and what it might show.
No, I don't have a subscription to this. I did have for a while. You can get three images free if you register. I don't know if any libraries or family history groups have access.

Ok thanks.

So from what I can make out
The last tram was no 389
It left on Sat 28 Feb 1954 in special ceremony
organised by the Corporation transport Dept.

Left Queens road which seems to be the docks area and travelled to Ardoyne.

It seems to me that as you say there are no relevant photos in the Northern whig and Belfast post newspaper.

So I am thinking there must have been maybe local papers?

I'm not sure about the 389 - that looks like it is painted on? The photo you posted has a number 68 on it.

I had a look in the newspaper articles it said last tram is no 389

and if you look at that meams website it has the same tram no 389.

So last tram is the 389 accord. to newspaper info.

The photo I posted you cant see the number at bottom of tram but on top yes it is no 68

so it must be tram no 68 no poss 389.

can't read the no in the meams one at top of tram but that one is tram no 389

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?

Unless otherwise advised this will be moved to the Brickwalls Archived section
within 24 hours
