Hi,
I wondering if anyone has any info on Edward Bagley(1894) and Ellen Knight (1893). They were my great grandparents but unfortunately died when my grandad Alf Bagley was only 4 years old, or so I think anyway! I have copies of the death certificates for both and although I know I have the right Edward Bagley I need to be sure that it's the correct Ellen Knight that died in July 1918. The story of what happened is muddled amongst the few family members I have but from the research I've done they both died from flu in 1918 which coincides with the Spanish flu outbreak. Some of my family believed Ellen Knight remarried a man with the surname Phipps and died some years later but I believe it was actually Edwards sister Ellen Bagley that married him, so my grandad and his brothers were actually brought up by the aunt and her husband. I've ordered the wedding certificate and hope the fathers name on it will confirm my thoughts. If anyone has any ideas of how I could check these details I would be very grateful for any suggestions.

If anyone has looked into this family in the past I would be delighted to hear any info you may have come across!

Wow thanks for all the info!

What really confuses me is I have a death certificate for Ellen Knight who died 12/07/1918 and was 26 years old which would have put her year of birth 1892/93 so I thought I had the right one!

How do you find records of addresses and who was living there after 1911? I didn't know you could find an info of where people were living after that cenus, it would be a huge help to be able to find these details.

Yes I've ordered the marriage cert for Ellen Bagley & Harry Phipps' wedding, so I guess it will say who Ellen's father was on it.

I'll get Alfs birth cert off my dad, he has it somewhere and yes I do have the death certs for Ellen Knight and Edward Bagley and also their marriage cert.

So from what I've found out does this mean there were two Ellen Knight born in 1892/93? Because one died in 1918!

It looks to me that Ellen Knight married Edward Bagley
he died
and she married Harry Phipps

The Ellen Bagley dau of Edward Bagley may have married Albert Hodgetts
that looks like the case cos of what Jo has just posted re a birth

and then there is this birth which shows an Albert G Phipps with mother Knight..so looking likely yours remarried.

Births Mar 1921 Phipps Albert G Knight Dudley 6b 1792

there are other children too Phipps mother Knight.

or rather both the death certif do you you have them

It could be any Ellen ????? married a Bagley

I was wondering if the death cert gave maiden name? I was just looking at the ones I have, early ones I have dont show maiden name but later ones do but I dont know when that changed? The death certs should show place of death? Doe they match and who was present at death?

I can't see a death for an Ellen Bagley dying in 1918

There is an Ellen Knight .........but that is not yours as yours was married by 1913 and would have been registered as Bagley not Knight.

so think we can say yours remarried.
