It would seem Thomas Wilkinson had taken himself to the cinema on the fateful evening of 31-1-1916. He heard the explosions and immediately returned home to 69 Union St where he found his injured wife. A neighbour gave evidence at the inquest that he had been sitting in his back room playing with his grandchildren when he heard a loud explosion. The windows of his house were blown in and he was flung against the fire guard. He went out into the entry and found Mrs Wilkinson on the ground. Her husband arrived and she was taken to Dudley guest hospital where she later died
The house surgeon at the hospital said Annie had suffered a puncture wound to the thigh and the bone was fractured. He said the actual cause if death was shock.
