Thomas was a regular at Tipton conservative club where he spent many evenings and was a well known much like member.it is believed he was on his way to the conservative club when he was caught in the blast from one of the bombs.
At the inquest it reported that Thomas was struck by shrapnel from the bomb. He was taken into a nearby business house. Here the occupier called for a vehicle to take him to hospital but Church responded by saying " Don't bother about me" Almost immediately after uttering those words he lost consciousness and died.
