I am new.

About fifty years ago, I started to collect post cards. I was working for my Girl Guides collector's badge. Grandma, Bessie HARROLD, gave me some of hers. She was a bit vague about some of them, but there was a strong theme of emigration. Some of them were sent to her mother, Martha PARSONS of Holt Farm, Cakemore Langley Whiteheath.

When the new Hive library in Worcester opened, I decided to find out a bit more about the postcards and the family history. I used Ancestry to get started and quickly found Black Country Connections had no end of really helpful information. However, sometimes the person I needed to know more about seemed to be missing.

I have been confused and bewildered by names that keep repeating in huge families, especially when the surnames are common, such as ADAMS, WESTWOOD, and STOKES. I have been helped no end by the tendency for families to stay put. As a child, I lived in Blackheath and Halesowen and went to infants and junior school in Old Hill, so I have some knowledge of the streets and towns. Wrong information in other people's Ancestry trees is a real problem, but it can be tempting to accept hints and take short cuts.

I have come across some problems. Hopefully, your excellent forum can help.

Best wishes

Many thanks for your kind greetings.

I was bowled over by the long list of Parsons relatives. Amazing.

I have just discovered "kin" view in BCC.

There is so much to explore.
