I have a problem with the marriage of Sarah Cox to William Rowbottom . I have a marriage certificate that says that she married William Thomas Bishton on the 14 July 1901 Parish Church of Blackheath .


William Bishton 39 Widower Boilermaker Station Lane Father; Thomas Bishton (Dec) Manager, Sarah Cox 29 Spinster Oldbury Road Father; James Cox Collier Wit: Henry Crane and Mary Woodward

In some of your cenuses the address for Sarah is Oldbury Road , which is the same address on the marriage certificate . Just wondered what u think ? DT

I think these 2 Sarah Cox are the same person.

William in 1901 & 1911 censuses is living with his mother and states that he's married, but no wife listed.

In the meantime, Sarah marries William Thomas Bishton in 1901, saying that she's a Spinster, but by this time would still have been married to William Rowbottom.

Just needs the marr adding to BCC she didnt mention being widow or not (being pregnant with Beatrice) at the time

Theres a Bishton tree on Ancestry that has a lot of certs- you can access ancestry at a library or archives free

Thank u RF . I am already on Ancestry and I am related to the Bishtons from a marriage to the Hazlewoods, also Sarah Cox relates to my Steventon Darby family ,bit like a jigsaw puzzle . xx

There is a Sarah Cox as a servant in 1901. perhaps that is her?

I have been searching for some childrens names...
Lily is with her uncle Harry Dorse in the 1901 census, I can connect up while waiting on marriage look up.

Lizzie in 1901 aged 18...Could she be Hannah Elizabeth b Dec quarter 1892??

Maria in 1911 aged 18 born USA... is meant to be born the same year but isn't on the 1901 census that I can see anywhere? I can see nothing on the family leaving uk or returning??
