*Archived * Name Conundrum: BEVAN, PRICE or BRICE

Hi,
Can anyone give advice on the following problem?
Selina DAVIES (cir 1843 - 1909) was the wife of Thomas DAVIES (cir 1843 - 1912).
Her mother was Mary GRIFFITHS. The evidence for this is found in Selina's Death Certificate (Statuary Deaths 625/010230).
However, it is not so certain if Selina's maiden name was BEVAN, PRICE or BRICE. On her Death Certificate (Statuary
Deaths 625/010230) her father is listed as "Thomas Bevan/, Potter, Deceased". On Thomas DAVIES Death Certificate
(Statuary Deaths 625/010096) she is listed as "Selina Bevan Brice". On the Marriage Certificate of her son David
DAVIES to Elizabeth BROWN (Statuary Marriages 625/010044) Selina is listed as "Selina Bevan Davies, MS Price". I am
not so sure about the "MS" part, it is very unclear.
In the 1871 census Selina is listed as Evelina, probably an error. Notably, she and Thomas are listed as staying
with a James and Catherine BRICE.
The 1881 census (FHL Film 0203619 GRO Ref Volume 627 EnumDist 6 Page 6, 478759 Cambuslang, Lanark, Scotland), lists
her as Silemia. Apparently she had difficulty with her name all her life. Death has not improved the situation.
Reasonably the next step would be to get hold of Selina's birth certificate, and her and Thomas's marriage
certificate. Is it my imagination or is it more difficult to find info prior to 1855? However, given that out of three documents I have have three different possibilities, I fear nothing conclusive will come of this path of investigation. Besides, I can't afford to get them for a couple of months.
Thanks for you time
