*TBC Archive?* Tax Records

Does anybody know if the UK tax authorities keep records only for a limited time after the person has passed away or are they kept somewhere for safekeeping? If they're kept would we have access to them - probably after the 100 year ruling?

I only ask cos if such records are kept somewhere it should reveal the names and addresses of the person's employer(s). After all that info is on the P60s I believe? Although, of course, I have no idea if they actually issued P60s in the early 1900s?

Thanks for any input.

Cheers

David

Hi David,
You only legally have to keep records for 6 years so they are are often dumped depending on storage in archive but may be held for longer. Now things are computerised records seem to be kept for longer. I'm currently seeing work back to 1994 (not PAYE but similar) . I 'm sure the current records should never be released even after 100 years because of Data Protection Act 1984 but for older stuff I'm not sure if it could be released after 100 years or not.
PAYE started on 6th April 1944 so you will have a while to wait!
