Hello again, haven't had to request a look-up for a long time, but I have a query with one of my Gt Gt Grandfathers weddings. :?:

I have the marriage entry from Dudley registry Office for this wedding taken place on
St Edmunds Dudley August 27th 1884 -
Henry Richard Taylor, 41, Widower, Horse Nail Maker, Father's name = William Taylor.
Jane Harrington, 40, Widow, ----------- , Father's name is written as Joseph "Spitton" Blacksmith.
Witnesses = Benjamin Dudley and Sophia Scriven.

I have a theory that the father's name has been written down incorrectly. It could possibly be "Spittle" as there was a Joseph Spittle working as a journeyman Blacksmith in the Black Country at the right time who also had a daughter named Jane. Could somebody check the spelling of the names on the Parish register entry for me please?

Kind Regards - Adrian

Hi NL ... Yes that's the correct Henry Richard Taylor.

I haven't been able to find Joseph Spitton, Jane Spitton living in the Black Country at the time, nor a marriage for Spitton and Harrington. The "Spittle"connection is simply a theory on my part, which is why I would like a Parish Register lookup to cross-reference the surname spellings. If it is Spittle, then that's the correct Jane too.

The only thing for certain is that widower HR Taylor married the widow Jane Harrington on August 27th 1884 at St Edmunds.

Thanks again....

Ok running with this as you know in BC section so will archive this tomoz
and will update the thread in the BC section and BCC with info

but it is Spitton on marriage quite clearly ...but I think like you that should say spittle
and I will join up on Bcc.

moving to archived.
