Travel Bulletin from Di

Just checkin' in. I've got Net access at last - thanks to a near-cyclone.

We've just survived 4 days of torrential rain and 130km winds! Caused us to fold up our little camper and bunker down in a cabin - with SOLID walls - for a few days.

What an experience! I've never heard anything like the rain (couldn't see the worst of it as it was pitch black - night-time and no power, so no lights anywhere).
The rain sounded like we were under a waterfall and it just stayed like that for hours and hours. We were near the sea and the wind and the waves were roaring for days. It sounded as if the waves were coming right up to the cabin. That couldn't really have happened, but knowing this didn't stop me getting out of bed every couple of hours and going out with a torch just to make sure.

Meanwhile, back home in Melbourne, where they were supposed to be having the winter that I'm escaping ... the temperature has been over 20 degrees with clear blue skies!

Hi Jimmy,
We're at Byron Bay on the North coast of New South Wales, Oz. Usually has a beautiful climate at this time of year. I was hoping to watch the whales going by as I did here last year. If they are out there now, the poor things are having a rough ride. Ooh, makes me feel

Still windy with a few showers about, but nothing like the last few days.
It's been an interesting year natural-disasterwise so far. Wonder what will happen next. I haven't been in an earthquake yet.

Yeah, Rob, but I get tired of pedalling sometimes.

I'll be in the Red Centre at the end of July. Alice Springs - Caterpillar Dreaming

Have just spent a week at Hervey Bay, Queensland. Lovely tropical weather - warm (24) and humid. I can feel myself slowing down more every day. The fastest walking pace I can manage is a relaxed saunter. Gee, this is a hard life

Heading inland a bit tomorrow, to Cania Gorge - lots of scenery and wildlife (the nice sort - colourful parrots and little kangaroo relatives called 'betongs').

We've bought ourselves one of those mobile wireless broadband connection gadgets, so might be able to get online a bit more often. There's so much going on here that I would love to get involved with.
