Hi... I posted request a few years ago and have now substantiated, by certificate & censuses the following-
a Jane Rickards married Joseph Beard sometime between 1861-1871; she was born c 1847 in Worcester but Joseph and his wife Jane were living in Dudley at the 1871 census.
Joseph and Jane went on to have children Herbert Thomas Beard 1872 (my maternal grandfather); William Henry Beard 1875; Clarinda Beard 1876; Joseph Beard 1878.
I can substantiate all of the above and that the mother/wife's name was definitely Jane formerly Rickards, however I cannot find Jane & Joseph's marriage or Jane's birth.
I'm thinking that she maybe had been married prior to her marriage to Joseph Beard and that her Rickards is not her birth name.
Any suggestions a to how to find out??????
PLEASE HELP.... have spent loads on certificates & still drawing a blank

what info do you have re Jane Rickards ...do you have her on the birth certif of one of the children so that is how you
know the maiden name?...if so could you post the birth info and I can add that to Bcc.

So no marriage info....

From this data the marriage date (if there is one) is 1911-44 = 1867

Yes the link to black country pages is the correct person & is part of my family tree.
I have birth certificates for 2 of the children both stating that the mother is 'Jane Beard formerly Rickards'.... 2 different lots of writing & clearly a 'k' not an 'h' as may have been thought.....
Apart from that I've drawn a blank and can only assume that maybe she had been married previously and Rickards isn't her maiden name

What name do I look for re a birth for her; on the childrens birth certificates she's named as 'Jane Beard formerly Rickards'!!!!!

would you like me to slot in your username in notes on Bcc?
I can add a note on Janes notes we need marriage info if anyone has it

It may be worth a try to look this up in the register, the H may be a K.


I know you are looking for Rickard, but an H could easily be mistaken for a K,

I have birth certificates for 2 of the children and they are in different hand-writing clearly showing a 'K'; I also checked the writing on them to see what an 'h' looked like & it is definitely RicKards....

Further to that the possible marriage I had found is a dead end too.... money refunded from GRO as the information I gave them didn't tally

Throw into that that the original info on the 1881 Census shows Jane as WIFE but UNMARRIED ...... this has really confused me...... any ideas folks, please

it could be ricard as they didnt spell there names and accent will play a part in how the superintendent writes it down ?
