It should be listed on http://www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk/cgi/m ... stmidlands but isn't. And since it looks as though the marriage was registered in Northamptonshire it could be that this Coseley record is for the Banns. So if you ask for a Coseley lookup, you need to ask for [the marriage records to be checked first and then] the banns. See below

I thought that this might be Joseph in 1841

In 1851 there is this family which is a good fit for children Mary, Hannah and Arthur. John snr. is remarried to Esther (Comfort having died). The snag is that the boy aged 16 is named as John, not Joseph. But that could be a mistake, I think John had left home by then. Next door is a David Hickman who might match the adopted son in 1861 census. I thought it significant that Joseph and Mary Ann name their daughter Comfort (after Joseph's mother perhaps)

There are trees on ancestry containing these people so I may have made the right connections. Then again it could be totally wrong!
You need the details for Joseph's marriage to Mary Ann, then you will have his father's name and occupation. So ask for a lookup of the Coseley banns, or contact Northamptonshire archives and get the marriage copied (costs 5 pounds probably, they have a website).
