Seeking info on George William Bishop, LAC in RAF during ww2

I am searching for anyone with information about or connections to George William Bishop, born some time between (I'm guessing) 1898 and 1921. Does anyone have this gentleman on their tree or in their research?

All I know is he was in the RAF in ww2, had some connection with Bristol in 1941 (if he wasn't from that area, maybe posted there?) served in Belgium in September 1944 and was married, possibly with 2 children by the end of the war.

He may also have been referred to as Bill or Billy, rather than using his first name.

I've looked at hundreds of suspects but no-one stands out. So if you have any info, please get in touch.

All I know about him is:

He was a Leading Aircraftsman in the RAF during WW2, and was posted abroad - because he was photographed at a base in Belgium in September 1944.
He was in the Bristol area in 1941 (possibly he was posted there? Or maybe he came from there)
He had been called up in 1939.
His service number was 926051

I've trawled through a few hundred suspects so far, but nothing jumps out. Hoping someone here knew the individual or his family!

Please get in touch, even if you're not sure it's exactly the same person.

Kind regards

Ian

Hi there

Thanks... I've already searched all the genealogy resources I can. FWR don't actually have him listed at all.

Hence trying to track down his descendants if possible...

Kind regards

Hi There

Yes, I viewed that one... unfortunately it's not him... wrong service number.

Browsing the National Archives Air 78/15 records (page 2020, trivia fans) there are actually 8 George William Bishops recorded. None of them listed on FWR. My suspects' service number is there on the slip. The other guy is plain George Bishop and he's a few pages earlier.

Anyone know what the stamps/markings on the Air 78 slips are? Mine is the only one on the page with an F in a circle inkstamped on it.

Kind regards

Hi Ian,

I'm not sure how you are connected to George but given you have his service number and service details it maybe possible to request his service records which should give detailed information on his service history.

Check out this link held within our military section for further details:

viewtopic.php?f=135&t=16331

It maybe an avenue to think about.

Good luck

Hi Adrian

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to get far...

First, I'm not directly related to him (and the person who might be is the one I'm trying to trace him for, to find out if THEY are). And second, I have no idea of his date of birth! Which according to the instructions means I can't apply for the records :-(

I have found a few more leads, trawling the newspaper archives I find there are at least 2 Bishop families in the Bristol area with sons called George William or mentioned as William (where the father is George). So will keep digging.

Kind regards

Ian

Hi,

It's a shame but I can't think of any avenue left open to you.

Let's hope you connect with his relative in the near future.

Good luck Ian.
