Hi,
Re the above BCC link about a Benjamin Hill, I have been working on the assumption that his wife was Phoebe Crampton, the daughter of Henry Crampton and Sarah Harper. The ‘Transcripts of Halesowen Parish Registers’ show the marriage of a Phoebe Crampton to a Benjamin Hill in St John’s Church on 18 August 1816 and also show that the bride and groom were both ‘of this parish’. The record also shows that the witnesses to the marriage were a Benjamin and Anne Parkes.

A FreeReg record shows that Phoebe and Benjamin 's son Samuel married a Sarah Marsh, in St Thomas’ Church, Dudley, on 12 November 1837. The record shows that he was a ‘Spade Moulder. Samuel’s father is confirmed as Benjamin Hill, ‘Nailer’, and Sarah’s father is shown as Thomas Marsh, ‘Nailer’. The witnesses were Eliza Hill (Samuel's sister) and Joseph Beddall (see below).

A BMD record was found which shows the marriage of Samuel's sister, Eliza, to a Joseph Beddall in the March quarter of 1843.

Hi,

I only followed this family 'in passing ' but it may help to know that I found a BMD record which shows the marriage of Eliza to Joseph Beddall in the March quarter of 1843 (Stourbridge 18:456); Census records subsequently shows that Joseph was a ‘Nailer’ and they had at least 2 children, James and Joseph . I also found the BMD record which shows the death of Eliza in the March quarter of 1847 (18:436). The record of her death is verified by subsequent records of her husband as a 'Widower'.

Ancestry has a record of the baptisms of the children, in Old Swinford :
James on 17 September 1843 and Joseph on 11 May 1845, both sons of Joseph and Eliza.

The 1851 census shows grandparents, Benjamin (transcribed as ‘Maryanna’) and Phoebe, living in Bower Lane, Quarry Bank, Kingswinford and with them are their sons, Edward (‘Spade Moulder’), Matthew (‘Spade Finisher’) and Joseph (also a ‘Spade Finisher’); plus their grandson, Joseph Beddell (born in 1845).

The 1861 census shows Benjamin and Phoebe still living in The Bower, Quarry Bank, Kingswinford and at home with them are three (3) grandsons , James Hill (born in about 1845), Samuel Hill (born in about 1844) and James Beddall (born in 1843). All of the grandsons are described as ‘Spade Makers’. It was noted that their son, Benjamin and his wife, Mary Ann (nee MacKerry), and their family are living next door.

In the 1861 census Joseph (junior) is shown in Womburn, Staffordshire with his father Joseph (Widower); both are 'Nail Makers'.
