Hi,
While researching the family of my great great grandmother Betsy Smith (nee Gaze), who moved to South Wales from Old Hill, I have discovered that her brother, Anthony Smith, (most probably) married an Ellen Worton and think it is the same one shown in the above link. Their marriage was in the Worksop District in the March quarter of 1881 (7b 54), a District which covered parts of Nottingham, Derbyshire and West Riding of Yorkshire.
Supporting evidence is provided by the 1881 census which shows them living in Kiveton Park, South Yorkshire with a William Worton , widower and boarder, aged 27 years, ‘Coal Miner’ and William’s son, John J Worton, aged 4 years, boarder; plus a Jos Priest, Boarder, ‘Coal miner’, aged 56 years. All born in [Old Hill], Staffordshire except John J, who is shown as being born in Black Brook, Worcestershire.
BCC shows that Ellen's mother Sarah remarried to a Joseph Priest and in the 1891 census Joseph and Sarah can be found in Yorkshire. The 1901 census shows Sarah moved back to Old Hill after Joseph's death.
Anthony and Ellen also eventually moved to South Wales and lived near his sister, Betsy.

Hope this helpful....H :P

Hi,

The eagle-eyed among you will have already noticed my error in the previous post. Of course, Anthony Smith is the SON of Elizabeth (Betsy) Gaze and Samuel Smith NOT the BROTHER of Betsy. Sorry for any confusion caused. Their BCC link is:
