Feeling good...getting stuck in Genealogy again...

After a few crappy months I am almost human again. Having a lot of fun with all the new records on Ancestry and FMP and feeding the genealogy bug again.
I will try not to vanish into the ether again.
Might tackle updating my info on the BCC tree as the newer records have provided a lot of new info as well as correcting a few basic errors.

That is good Mark!
I thought of you last weekend. There was a really moving documentary about a Swedish girl who got narcolepsy and cataplexy after the swine flu vaccine. Her life is just ruined, and there seems so little hope that it will improve.

At least the British government were quick to compensate the kids who got narcolepsy via the flu vaccine.
Those kids would more than likely developed it later on anyway.
Anybody can get it an any age.
There is a genetic marker that make you more susceptible.
The flu shot included an ingredient to hyper stimulate the auto immune system.
The auto immune system then attacked a very small part of the brain that produces two chemicals called hypocretins.
These hypocretins regulate your sleep cycles.
Without them you do not go through the four stages of sleep correctly.
You go almost immediately into REM (dream sleep).
No matter how long you sleep, your brain does not get enough REM sleep and so keeps telling you that you are tired.
A healthy person would have to stay awake a minimum of 48 hours to feel the tiredness a narcoleptic suffers constantly.
These incorrect sleep stages are the cause for the cataplexy, sleep attacks, tiredness, memory loss, hypnagogic hallucinations, night terrors, sleep paralysis and, believe it or not, severe insomnia, that narcoleptics suffer with.
There are no drugs designed specifically for treating narcolepsy. We use combinations of drugs designed for other diseases such as ADHD and Parkisons Disease.
The most popular treatment in the UK is Xyrem which is essentially GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm), the date rape drug.
A bottle the size of a bottle of eyedrops costs over $5000 and lasts a month.
