Don't know if the folks here actually know he was.
He was a famous footballer and played for England, Blues, Villa & Albion.
If anyone on here is connected to him you should be very proud!
He left Villa because he became a pub landlord and at that time (1900) the Villa board would not employ such a player.
Most football books give his dob as 01 Nov 1869, Langley Green
Other footballing notes when he played for Aston Villa:-
Brought from Birmingham (Small Heath at the time) for £350 & Sold to WBA for £100
Honours include:
Four England caps
1st Division Champion 1896-97, 1898-99, 1899-1900
FA Cup Winner 1896-97
Sheriff of London Charity Shield Finalist 1898-99, 1899-1900
Birmingham Senior Cup Winner 1898-99
Staffordshire Senior Cup Winner 1898-99
Lord Mayor of Birmingham Charity Cup Winner 1897-98, 1898-99
Lord Mayor of Birmingham Charity Cup Finalist 1896-97
