Benjamin Carter from Paulton to Dudley late 1840s

Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forum. I have done a lot of research on the Carter family of Paulton, Somerset, and members of the family who moved to the Midlands, North of England, and the US of A. Ready to share any and all research.

My great grandfather, Benjamin Carter, was born in Paulton Somerset in 1822 and moved to Dudley in the mid to late 1840s as part of a migration involving a lot of people who left Paulton.

When Benjamin got married to Roseannah Owen in 1850 he gives his address as Oakey Well Street on the marriage certificate but no house number. There is no house number on the banns. I am trying to find out which house he lived in, since this may help clarify some of the Carter family lines in Paulton.

On the 1851 census, there are two Carter families from Paulton, Somerset, living on Oakey Well Street. These are:
George Carter born Paulton and Frances (nee Hickmans) born Dudley living at number 99 and
William Carter and Grace (nee Carter) both born Paulton with children Simon and Maty (born Paulotn) and Esther (born Dudley living at number 133.

I think Benjamin was living with one of these families. Are there any electoral registers, tax rolls, any other records that might show where Benjamin was living? Many thanks for any input.
Regards, Terry.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for the words of welcome. I have done a lot of research on the migration of people, Carter family and others, from Paulton, Somerset, to Dudley and other areas of the Midlands, as well as going back to a Paulton marriage in 1739 on my direct Carter line. A few years ago, I found that my great grandmother was actually Florence Passant and not Florence Hough and the Passant family came from Shropshire; have gone back to 1672 there. I have also done the DNA cheek swab together with two probable, now proven, cousins and the National Geographic Genographic project.

I am willing to share all my research if it will help anyone.

Regards, Terry.

Hi Peter,
Looks like I have two threads going (?), so I am late replying to your posting. Many thanks for the links, all of which I checked out.

I do not know Lisa, although the Carter line she posted is different to mine (but one I looked at to check).

For Jackie, in case she is on this forum, George Carter and Jane Gregory were married on 12 October 1840, in St Mary Radcliffe, Bristol. George was the son of a Thomas Carter and Jane the daughter of James Gregory. One witness was Grace Gregory (I have marriage cert).

I know several of the names from the other postings; the one was not me but starter by a descendant of Obadiah Carter.

I have Excel transcripts of all the Paulton records and microfilm of the original documents at my local FHC if I can look up anything for members.

Regards, Terry.
