Puzzle is that if Ann is mother.in.law and Maria sister.in.law
How could wife of John Hill also be Maria ?
She is Maria in 1871 and 1881 also

only marriage found

but daughter Fanny Hill is born in 1850 ?

My guess would be a second marriage somewhere-- either of Maria Hill's parents or herself.

Tried
a) Second marriage option but no joy
b) tried Fanny Hill and Fanny Sparry options but no joy
c) tried marriages for John Hill to a Maria and no joy except Sparry option

I think possibly relationship is wrong and Ann Allport and Maria are related through marriage of Nebo Allport to Phebe Hill ( sister of John Hill)
Although Ann Allport lodger is living with Maria Hill in 1881

So Maria dau is the one aged 19 in 1861
and here in 1851

so as you say why is ann down as mother in law....was John married prev to one of the sisters?

Or is it just that Anns son Nebo marries Johns sister Phebe....so she is mother in law to his sister Phebe
and sort of generally to Him....but not in the true sense
