ARC TBC - Music hall

Hi
This is my brick wall:
Syd Lansdown appears in The Stage paper and BNA performing with various companies between 1907 and 1925. In 1907-08 he's with the Karno company (contemporary of Charlie Chaplin who's bro was in same company!)
In the 20s he's in the same productions as Lily Lansdown who is either his wife or they had a relationship. She could be Lily/Lila Vesta who later married Bob Bayes. Vesta would have been her stage name. We think her real name is Lilian Simcox.

I can't find anything else out about Syd.
Was that his real name?
When and where was he born?
When and where did he die?

Are Lily Vesta and Lily Lansdown and Lily Simcox the same person?

Complete dead end?

Can anyone help?
Thanks
Kirsten

Hi

I found your post on this thread http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/localities ... .2/mb.ashx

Could it be this marriage? It would fit for Robert's name, and also the anniversary which you mention.

Marriages Mar 1932

Thompson Robert E Thorne Sunderland 10a 1151
Thorne Lily Thompson Sunderland 10a 1151

What do you think is fairly safe information?

Robert Etheridge Thompson aka Bob E Bayes aka Bob E Bliss married? Lila Vesta aka Lilian Simcox aka Lily Thompson

Lily Thompson was possibly Lilian Simcox and previously married/partner of Syd Lansdown who could have been called pretty much anything.

Only thing is, there is an advert

Publication:Aberdeen Journal

Publication date:Monday 02 February 1931

Aberdeen's Home of Quick Fire Variety
"Looking at Life"
The 100 minutes mirthquake revue, featuring Bob E Bayes, The Spirit of Mirth
Les Rollenoffs, sensational Dancers
The Giovannis, Italian accordianists
Billy Bullinger, The Eminent Tenor
Lily Thompson's ten Dancing Magics
Lila Vesta, Comedienne, etc.

Would Lily Thompson and Lila Vesta appear on the same bill if they were the same person?

Would it be worth chasing the marriage for Robert E Thompson to see if it is the right one, and if Lily Thorne was married before? Perhaps Lily and Lila are not the same person.

Thanks for your replies
Peterd - yes I saw that marriage. It could be my Syd Lansdown but I have no idea. I might try and trace living relatives. Its not my lady as she was called Lily not Louisa.

Gardner - Also seen this marriage and it looks like it does fit. If Lily Simcox/Thorne/Lansdown are all the same there should be a marriage record for Simcox and Thorne, and likewise a divorce record.
There is a record for a Lily Simcox marrying Ambrose Thorn in 1910 Lancashire. I don't know how to search for a divorce record.

Lily Thompson's 10 dancing magics is dancing troupe that Lily ran so they could appear on the same billing.

But I still don't have any leads for finding whether Lily Lansdown was the same person.

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried to find more using the Karno connection? If the company went to America in 1910 (and 1912) then you might find them all traveling to/fro the States and in the 1911 census. I presume they would have used their real names for all that documentation so if you can find the group by looking for the more famous people whose names we do know, then you might get lucky.

Charles Chaplin b. 1889
Sydney ditto b. 1885
Arthur Stanley Jefferson (Stan Laurel) b. 1890
