Diary entries- little blurb that John RIchards worte in his front sheet of diary.
Richards family lived near Oldbury, Shropshire and then Dudley. They attended the Dissenting Chapel at WOlverhampton.
John RIchards was born Sunday, May 10 1778, was named after an uncle. ( weren't they all back then???)
John's mother was Jane Richards who was the daughter of Susanna and Richard Trinder of Littleworth, Gloucester. They were glovers by trade.( Trinder's were )
JOhn's father was named James RIchards and was a Baker and Miller. He apparantly was ruined by speculation in corn during war in America.
In 1794- John went to Deptford, Kent to learn his father's business- but left though sickness. Was then in care of Mr Dean of Newington. John worked in Post office until he gave it up for secular matters.
1797 Realatives returned to religion- commenced village labour and formed Greenwich Sunday School SOciety. Same year began a school in Bromley, Ken.

HI Craiglets
thanks for this I might move this to the social History section in a while
but you mentioned having some of the people in the diary that you wanted to place fit in somewhere.
Now if they are from the Black Country area or one of them is we can place them in our Connections tree and run with
finding out who they "belong" to re ancestors descendants...which will be good fun!
So are any of the above born in the Black country?
or marry and have descendants in the BC that you know of?
If so we can chase em!
So John Richards is born Oldbury?
Do you have any info we can add to the tree about him?

footnote...just seen you have added some so we can run with them!
do you know anymore about those you have added?
or is that what you want us to do put the flesh on the bones?
Be good to get some of your tree on the Connections site too
if you are interested pm me!

I have no idea unfortunatley where he was baptised- as apparantly they were heathans for awhile. I will have to search more- but it does sound likely!
With the information that I am putting in- I am just putting in here for anyone and everyone to use- as maybe it might be of interest or help to someone.
Also, I am completly brainless when it comes to where Black Country starts and ends. Is it only Worcester?
Thanks!

Did some more digging in the family line and it states that John was born May 1778 and then baptised Jun 4 1779. He died in 1854 aged 76 in Old Swinford.
So, I don't think that is his baptisim for West Bromwich.
