ARC TBC - Tracing from navy ticket number

Hi
I have a Merchant Navy Ticket for what I think is the missing ancestor link in my family. Does anyone know if I can trace more about him and his parents etc from the ticket number?
The ticket tells me that he was 14 years old when he joined as a 'boy' and that he was from 'Gloster' but I need to now know who his parents were to progress any further
Any pointers would be welcome
Thanks

Hi Peterd
thanks for the information but the problem I have is that I know about the Liverpool links but am not able to find the Gloucestershire link. I know his father was called Thomas and was described as a stonemason on the 1864 marriage certificate of the 1832 Thomas. I cannot find any 1841, 51 or 61 mention of him except that I know he was a sailor from Gloucestershire so he must have been at sea in 1861 as his wife was stayng with a friend in Liverpool.
The issue I have is that I need to know if the ticket I have for Thomas jnr B 1832 is a way of finding out if his father was called Thomas and a stonemason etc. and where the family lived.
Hope I have given enough information but I have all I need in respect of the Brewer line except this piece of the jigsaw which puts me in Gloucestershire
Thanks

Hi Spindrift.
Stonemasons often travelled around as journeymen to where the work was. I have one on my hubbie's tree that was living and working all over the north of England.
Hope this helps a bit.
Margaret

Spindrift,
If memory serves from my days in the MOD Medal Office all Merchant navy packets are kept in the National Archives. His ticket number would be enough to identify him

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?
