I have been shocked over the last few days to find my great great uncle murdered his father in 1916, I came across the newspaper article some time ago but didn't really want to admit it could concern my family. Gradually working my way towards that part of the family I found out it was true. Besides the newspaper article I came across the murder on Black Country Muse in fact Dennis was able to confirm that it was the same Edwin Ashmore Jnr and Snr in my family.
I would like to find anymore information on the trial and what happened to Edwin after his prison sentence, Dennis suggested that I contact the Staffordshire Sentinel to see if they can help which I will do. Anymore ideas?

I know how you must be feeling Nessa.
I felt dreadful when I read the reports of the trial of my greatgrandfather who really only escaped being found guilty of murder because my greatgrandmother died of pneumonia and there was no proof that it was caused by the beating he gave her. Well, perhaps it wasn't and he was "just" a wife-beater. Either way I felt quite sick at the thought for a long time.

Would it be worth getting Edwin Thomas jnrs death certificate to see where he died?

If http://www.blackcountrymuse.com/apps/fo ... rder-1916- is correct (rather a lot of reading between the lines in there) then Edwin jnr was judged partially insane so perhaps he was put in a mental institution? Or prison. Either way, his death certificate would be a point to work backwards from.

I will send for his death certificate to see if had served his sentence, what I find strange is that my mother never heard anything about this dreadful act.
On a lighter note a few weeks ago through the forum I made contact with a member of the Ashmore family we didn't know existed it appears her grandmother and mine were sisters. We are hoping to meet in the near future, we have already exchanged lots of pictures and information.
