Well now I am a little deflated at this time of writing. I am volunteer with local community based charity who run various clubs and events, one of the things to come off the back of an IT club was a specific course in an introduction to Family history , I was initially going to give this talk, but to cut long story short I was told I was not doing it any more.

So, I have "wasted" a lot of time collating examples and writing up fact sheets and so on, so rather than waste them I thought of posting them on this forum. NOw, question is, do people prefer reading through pages or watching and listening to a video?

How awful to have everything prepared and ready and find that all your work was in vain.
Personally i'd prefer a video version and i'm sure that it would be interesting to listen to an introduction to family history.

Horses for courses if you'll excuse the pun, I much prefer the written course to the video tutorial.

Maybe do both?

I'd say both - I tend to pick up a lot from video, but it's much easier to look something specific up in the written form.

It is a shame that after the prep work you didn't get to present your tutorial.
I have to do some teaching at work (thankfully not a lot, as it doesn't come naturally), I always enjoy the prep of my presentation more than the presentation itself.

Lovely offer, Andrew. I'm a greedy person... I would love to see both, if you have them already prepared and it would not mean you going to a lot of extra trouble. I think this would be a great permanent installation to the forum.

in fact why not volunteer to help in that section I am sure Jo aka grangers 14 would love to come off it!
And I bet Peterd would love the help too

Well now the challenge has been laid down, its time to get something done about it. What I have is perfectly fine to waffle on for 5 mins as part of a LOOONNNGG daily programme, but for the attention span of most internet users, its far from fine, so I will be re-writting my material to fit in with shorter and more precise time frames. I need a new microphone and debating to appear on video myself or just show a screen of notes and images and screen captures etc or maybe both, but I am not sure if I want my ugly mug to be displayed!

I'm sure if compared to some of the ugly mugs on here you would look positively handsome Andrew.

I need to do a complete re-write. I have written too formal and have not used first or second person, I have subsequently learned that good internet articles and videos speak to the reader and viewer directly, plenty of "you"!

I read back the first 5 pages and I was boring myself! Problem is I was being to conservative and formal, drummed into me when I was taking my A level History all those years ago.

SO a new approach, I will simply write it as I would be speaking it to someone, oh well back to the drawing board as they say.

Oh Jo, I can't believe that . I think you are brill at what you do on here . If any body on here needs to read it more than once its definitely me .
