Can anyone tell me how to find out past occupants of a given address?

Usually from the Electoral Roll or whoever keeps the deeds

If you're talking about 1911 and earlier then census records will help.

You can search Find My Past for addresses but not on Ancestry unless you want to trawl. You can view the 1911,on pay per view here :

Do you already have a census return with a family living in the address, but you want to see who is living there in other census after people have disapeared or moved? If so, then one little trick is to find a family with unusual surname living in the same road, then search for them and see if they living there in another census, then you can simply have a couple of page turns to get to the correct address. Of course if you are using Findmypast, then it does have the address search, but the tactic I described is good way to search.
