My name is Steve and I'm a newbie at researching my family tree.

It started about 4 years ago when someone came into work and the topic came up. Tony gave me a couple of websites to check out but I never had the time. Then 3 weeks ago I was looking at a family tree from a tv soap on my laptop at work, when he popped in and he asked if I'd ever traced mine. I hadn't but mentioned my grandmother's maiden name (DISNEY) and a week later he came back with some notes. He'd been to the local library where they have access to censuses and luckily my grandmother was born in January 1911. Tony was able to go quite a long way back, maybe my great great great grandfather, Samuel Disney born in 1829.

Since then he told me about the FreeBMD site and I downloaded the Ancestry App for my iPad. This is brilliant as it gives me hints when I add names to the tree, and I'm able to get views of the censuses for free without a subscription. I'm starting to get stuck, not helped by missing records (I think) and am starting to doubt some assumptions.
