This is a spin off from the Parkes/Batty thread below.

IGI extracted record:

Mary Ann Batty born Gosty Hill, mother Elizabeth Westwood
married William Bellcher 4 April 1859 at Reddall Hill Parish Church

Seems to be connecetd to the other lot some how.

Just having a late-night wonder about this. We had

1841
Waterfall Lane, Rowley
John Parkes 40 - Nailor
Phebe Parkes 50
Elizabeth Parkes 19
Mariah Parkes 15
Saml Parkes 15
Eli Parkes 14

living in the same house
James Braley 7
Phebe Braley 5
Mary Braley 3 Mo
all b in c

1851 census
John Parkes born 1801 Rowley Regis (Head)

Phebe Batty born 1791 Rowley Regis (Lodger)
Eli Batty born 1823 Rowley Regis (Son of lodger)
Phebe Batty born 1834 Rowley Regis (Lodger)
Mary Ann Batty 1841 Rowley Regis (Lodger)

Note that Eli is down as Parkes in the 1841 and Lodger's son in the 1851, so he is Phebe's son and possibly John parkes as father (would need to see the wedding entry)

James aged 7 in 1841 is son of Hannah, the baptism is recorded.
Then we have Phoebe born 1834/36 who might possible be Phebe Batty bpt 19 April 1835 St Thos Dudley Parents William Batty and Olive

and Mary Ann born 1841 Could she be
Mary Ann Batty born Gosty Hill, mother Elizabeth Westwood
married William Belcher 4 April 1859 at Reddall Hill Parish Church
according to census born abt 1841

Is it very unlikely that the three Batty kids in the 1841 census all had different mothers?

Anyone got any ideas how to crack this? At least I don't think Mary Ann is Phebe's daughter as Phebe would have been a bit old, and in any case the census entries do not support it. Not Phebe the younger either so it needs changing :-(

West Midlands bmd has Mary A Baity born RR 1840, guess that is her but if teh marriage is to be believed was her mother Elizabeth Westwood and father ? Batty or was her motehr Elizabeth Batty and married a Westwood later?
Confused here!

Maybe Phebe was a cousin, I see this couple, like you say Olive is quite unusual.

1841
Sloe Street, Kirkgate, Leeds, Yorkshire
William Batty 45 - Cordwainer
Olive Batty 45
both b in c

Extracted
WILLIAM BATTY
Marriages:
OLIVE WOOD
Marriage: 17 APR 1804 Saint Peter, Leeds

I'm not sure the Yorkshire ones are the same people.

I think we should archive this one and see if it comes back to haunt us :-)
